The best choice for luxury rooms is real wood flooring. Natural colours and markings create a unique floor that can only be found in your home. This adds charm to the overall design of the room. You can also find real wood floors in various colours, depending on the type of wood and the finish.
Wood flooring has many other benefits. Wood floors can be used as natural insulation and help to retain heat in your home. Wood floors are also noticeably warmer in winter and won’t cause cold feet, unlike tiled floors.
Different types of wooden floors
Before you start cleaning, it is important to identify the type of floor that you have.
New wooden floors can be stained or painted and are coated with a polyurethane coating. Polyurethane, a liquid resin, protects the flooring. You can also use varnish, shellac, or aluminum oxide as film finishes.
Older wooden floors may have an oil or wax finish. After oil or wax has been applied to the wood, it absorbs into it and forms a seal. Wooden floors with a lot of traffic, such as the middle of stairs or the middle, can become dull and discoloured. Oiled floors can bring them back to life with a reapplication of oil or wax.
Before you begin cleaning, you need to determine the type of finish on your floor. If you feel the wood grain and texture, your floor has likely been oiled or waxed. Rub a coin edge on the floor to check for wax. To confirm, check for wax buildup on the coin.
Dry Cleaning of the Floor
It would help if you kept your floor clean of food or debris. You can damage the floor by slipping on the grit or pushing it into the surface. Food debris can get stuck between boards, making it more difficult to clean up.
Dry cleaning is a great way to get rid of this stuff. Keep a brush and a dustpan on hand to spot clean areas with food or dirt buildup. A brush and dustpan are the best options if you only have a few debris spots. You can also store your vacuum in an easily accessible place. Turn the beater brush off, and, if your vacuum is set to “hard floor”, turn it on. Dry cleaning is a good option to eliminate any dust on the floor.
Dry cleaning floors should not be limited to removing dirt, dust, and food particles from one place to the next. Make sure you collect all dust and food debris in a dustpan.
At least once per week, it would help if you did a damp clean. You will need to clean your floors more often if they are exposed to high use levels. You mustn’t cover a wooden floor with excessive amounts of water. Water can seep into joints and cause wood not to be properly protected from swelling. Before you begin wet cleaning, ensure that you’ve followed all the steps and that there is no dirt or dust on the surface. This can cause scratches to the floor when wet cleaning is not done properly.
A microfibre mopping device is the best way to damp clean wooden floors. A frame holds a microfibre pad which can be dampened and then swept across the floor using microfibre mopping. They are ideal for damp mopping because the microfibre pads have a large surface area and can be pushed down to clean. The system is less dependent on water than a regular mop. The Robert Scott Pro Mist has a spray function that allows you to mist your floor while you clean.
Product
Your floor can be sealed or unsealed, as mentioned earlier. You will need to select a different product depending on your floor.
You can seal your floors with a product like Astonish wood floor cleaner. This all-purpose product adds shine, protects against dirt, and restores the finish.
It would help to choose a cleaner that doesn’t strip the oil or wax from unsealed floors. We recommend using a professional cleaner like Evans High-Class. This neutral cleaner is also odourless and is suitable for damp mopping with spray-on, wipe-off cleaning systems.
If there is more soil on the floor than usual, let it dry before you repeat the damp mopping procedure.
