I purchased our home in 2018, and it was, to put it excellently, a real fixer-upper. However, we got the house looking fresh and modern with a small amount of elbow grease and elbow grease. It was a bit of a hassle from the bedrooms to floors to bathrooms and the basement, and I’ll admit it was a struggle to live in the home during the renovation. It was a messy experience, but with some patience, we made it through it, and you can. Through the process, I’ve learned a few techniques and tips on managing the dirt, mess, and odors that pile up throughout the renovation process. I want to share these with you. So you can have a comfortable and healthy experience that you can live with and appreciate.
Reno Maintenance
Since the beginning of my cleaning business in 2006, I’ve been through various personal and professional experiences working through the post-renovation cleanup process. I’ve been through the kind of mess that can be found in these kinds of places. One of the most important things you need to be aware of is keeping your space as neat as possible throughout the renovation. If you’re doing the task yourself or have the contractor do it, you must ensure the home is clean at the end of each day. This way, nothing left over on the floor could get buried or disappear, such as wood splints, dust, or nails. Cutting and sanding various construction materials can cause debris to be scattered everywhere, and by getting rid of it, you’ll be able to stop that dust from getting into and around your house.
This is not the moment to vacuum your home with a regular one. You’ll require a specific one to do this task, and any wet-dry vacuum is sufficient. The more you keep an eye on it while you are renovating and the less work you’ll need to perform at the end of things, the more smoothly the process will be.
It is possible to apply plastic covers over objects and remodel areas around them, but only when the renovation is done at a low level or only one item is being repaired or upgraded. Another option is to tape and cover vents and ducts to ensure that air doesn’t get circulating through the home. Your contractor may perform this, but if they don’t, it’s an excellent technique to prevent dust from spreading during renovations. A cleaner for the air is one you should think about as it will do the job for you and is an excellent option for this purpose. We used it during our renovations, and it did wonders. We are in a bungalow, and it was vital for me to have excellent air quality for Brad, the cat, and me and so we put an air purifier on the main floor, and we had one inside the basement.
Prepare the Space
It’s not always an extended process, but you’ll be able to tell that the work is done and is ready for cleanup when the contractor who did the job is gone from your property and has left all their equipment and trash with them. Sometimes, you’ll need to complete some of the work yourself, so be sure that you remove all of the final items like paper, plastic barriers, paint cans, boxes, and construction materials from the floor. Always be mindful and ensure that all of these items must be disposed of securely and safely.
However, it is always a good idea to have your post-renovation cleanup done once the contractors have gone before moving back into all your belongings. A post-renovation clean is essential to the process because it lets you relocate back to a beautiful, clean, and well-maintained area!
Air Quality and Filtration
When we redecorated our home, There were several significant projects where rooms were stripped to studs. From drywall to paint, flooring, ceilings, to insulation, and the lighting, all of it was removed, and along with it came the air quality problems I discussed in the past. Plenty of debris and dust from renovations were strewn about everywhere, and we dealt with this by tackling it in various ways.
We started with regular maintenance on the floor and vacuuming using a wet-dry vacuum each day to take out the bulkier stuff. We then put on two air filters to trap smaller particles of dust and other invisible particles floating in the air or aren’t possible to get by using a damp microfiber cloth. If you’re in the market for excellent cleaning cloths, check out Maker’s Clean General Use High-Quality Microfiber Cloth.
Formaldehyde has been featured in the news recently and, together with asbestos and other fibers, is a dangerous toxin to consider when cleaning floors, ceilings, and walls. A cleaner for air will eliminate the problem immediately and help keep your air clean and clean. I would prefer to use Dyson Hot+Cool Formaldehyde, which instantly detects and traps particles and pollutants, creating an air-quality and safer atmosphere for your family, friends, pets, and family members. It also detects and eliminates formaldehyde! It removes 99.97 percent of the particles as small as 0.3 microns. The off-gasses emitted by flooring, paints, furniture, and fixtures, all result in unhealthy and polluted air. The sophisticated HEPA filtering particulate, as well as formaldehyde sensors, are an effective weapon against harmful contaminants.
If you own an HVAC unit within your house, you should change your furnace’s filter regularly. This is crucial after an upgrade since it’s been working hard and may be blocked. It’s also an ideal time to think about calling the duct cleaning service so that you can move to the next stage of renovation with clean air and ducts.
Dyson Products
You already be aware that I am a fan of Dyson products. One reason for this is that they are motivated by research and development, continuously developing new products that are becoming more efficient in taking on different tasks requiring specific expertise. An excellent example was the creation of the Dyson Hot+Cool Formaldehyde.
The cleaner was initially evaluated using its CADR standards, placing it in a compact room with air circulation and one sensor. Then they realized it was insufficient and did not yield the most precise and effective results. They came up with The Polar Test, which put the cleaner into a larger space, reflecting the actual home we live in. They also added nine sensors instead of one to detect air throughout the entire area. It’s all about performance for Dyson, and they have made a splash with this one.
