I’ll teach you how to remove markers, ink, and crayon stains for the Back to School series. Always clean colors as quickly as possible because the faster you get them out of your way, the more likely you will remove them. When removing stain marks from clothes and other fabric, ensure that you are dabbing the stain and not rubbing, as this will push the paint further into the cloth and assist in setting the color. Dabbing helps lift the color out of the material, so be sure to rotate your towel or cloth while you work to achieve the most effective results.
If you want to introduce new cleaning equipment to your toolbox, you should look no further than Maker’s Clean Products. They have affordable cleaners and clothes to put you on the right track towards clean and fresher living.
Pen Stains
It is unlikely that all of these stains will be visible. Therefore, set your expectations to try your best, but be prepared for the worst. This is probably one of the most challenging stain removal methods available. Put a clean cloth on the affected area to stop spreading the stain further. Then, spray rubbing alcohol onto the pen stain and allow it to sit for a few minutes. This will loosen the stain. You should begin to see the ink start to flow. Be careful not to over-treat it (i.e., soak it) for the color to remain as separate as possible. Grab a clean towel cloth and rub the stain by pressing down into the fabric, then lifting. Avoid rubs at all costs! It will be apparent that the ink is beginning to move from your clothing onto the cloth, but be sure you move the fabric to avoid re-transferring. Continue to do this until you’ve eliminated as much ink as possible. Use dish soap to apply the pretreated and throw it into the washing machine at a low temperature for a spin. When it’s out, the stain should be gone! If not, go through the process (and be hopeful to be successful!) Please do not put your clothes in dryers or expose them to heat until the stain has gone. Otherwise, it will set and will make it permanent.
Marker Stains
Permanent markers can be nearly impossible to get off of fabric. It’s all in the name: they are intended to remain permanent, which means they’re not washable without effort. I’ve found that hair spray to be the most effective on these kinds of staining. As I’ve mentioned, treating it when it’s still natural will give the best chance of getting rid of the stain. Put a clean, dry cloth underneath the garment to prevent it from spreading the paint. Spray hair spray, allow it to sit for a couple of minutes, and let the hairspray do its magic. Utilizing a spray bottle containing water, spray the stain. Begin to rub the stain with a towel or clean cloth, and remember to turn the towel while you work. When you cannot remove additional ink, clean the stain with dish soap and go through a cold wash cycle in the washing machine.
You can also use rubbing alcohol in place of water or hair spray. The same procedure is followed as described above.
Crayon Stains
If crayon gets stuck on your walls or other areas, you have a variety of options you can take. For parents, purchase washable crayons! However, if you decide that you don’t want washable crayons. You can use baking soda on a wet sponge to eliminate crayon stains. Dip your sponge into baking soda, then gently buff the crayon marks away from the surface. This can be used on wallpaper, walls, and most furniture surfaces. After you’re done, wash it off with water and dry it with an old towel or cloth. If you want to be more careful, get a non-gel toothpaste and an appropriate toothbrush for the task. The toothbrush should be wet, and instead of teeth, apply the same method of buffing to eliminate the crayon marks off your surfaces or walls.
Do you have kids who go to school using crayons? Ensure they’re kept in a plastic or bag pencil case. The worst thing you could do is for them to fall out and cause a mess in your child’s backpack. And what will happen if they begin in a melt…
