A GUIDE FOR KEEPING YOUR GYM CLEAN

An unpleasant odour can deter anyone trying to exercise in a large room. Neglecting to maintain a clean gym can result in active bacteria, making it a breeding ground for infection. You will need the gym cleaning equipment and a comprehensive cleaning plan to prevent this from happening. While the former is possible, the most common mistake people make is ignoring the second. Without a plan and a list, you will inevitably forget the details and misalign the timing, leading to financial and health risks for your business.

HOW CLEAN IS CLEAN?

A gym that looks clean doesn’t necessarily mean it is.

International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association has a very valuable cleanliness guide that is jam-packed with statistics about the importance of maintaining a clean gym.

The report shows that cleanliness has a positive correlation with overall club earnings. Average housekeeping spending is about 2.9% of the club budget. However, as this increased (upto 4.1%), it led to a general increase in profit and customer retention.

Customers reported an 83% satisfaction rating if they could go to a gym they felt was clean and well-maintained. However, this dropped to 43% if the gym was perceived as dirty or unclean. Retention fell from 90% to as low as 52%.

IMPROVEMENT OF YOUR TASKS

Before you even think about hiring a cleaner or buying a mop, the absolute first thing you need is to make a comprehensive list of chores your gym requires.

After you have completed the obvious tasks (and make sure to read the operation manual for any Gym Cleaning Equipment), you can begin breaking them down into a time-sensitive list. If you need help, we’ll go over the main tasks a bit later.

Begin by putting together all the tasks you need to do every few hours.

The daily chores, such as closing and opening doors, are next. You will need to vacuum, clean all equipment and wash any change and shower facilities.

The next step is to inspect items for weeks or months. This includes checking for wear and tear on all covers and seats and checking fixtures and installations. Deep cleaning carpeted areas (even if they aren’t used for exercise, it doesn’t mean they won’t get dirty) and checking conveyor belts.

It would be best to keep a digital or a physical checklist to mark each task off easily. This will ensure that no cleaning is missed, and it also helps you know when the next task should be completed.

Don’t forget to check it off your list. Spot fix any leaky or shredded showerhead immediately.

PRIMARY TASKS

The most important thing to remember is that a thorough cleaning plan will increase your gym’s chances of success. However, it’s also important to identify which tasks are necessary.

Although each facility is unique, the vast majority of gyms share a common set of equipment that you should be able to clean.

DISINFECTING EQUIPMENT FOR FITNESS

When rating a club’s cleanliness, members place equipment surfaces at 71% second, just below restrooms, as the highest priority. Common complaints are excessive sweat, sticky fingers, and fingerprints on the machines – basically, anything that reminds people to use the machine.

It can be more difficult than you think to do a simple spot check on your fitness equipment. It’s not possible to spray the equipment with any cleaning product. The equipment has metallic and synthetic components, and, most importantly, it must be safe for long-term human exposure.

You should ensure that you choose the right Gym Cleaning Equipment, wipes that don’t corrode metal, and that you do not spray too close to sensitive electronic components. This could cause damage.
